ICSE Physics Numericals Test by Nilanjan Das ( xaveriannilanjan@outlook.com ) F.M. 30 Time: 1 hr 1. (a) A geyser is rated 1500 W 250 V. It is connected to 250 V mains. Calculate: (i) The current drawn. (ii) the energy conumed in 50 hours (iii) the cost of energy consumed in 50 hours at the rate of Rs. 3.70 per kWh. 4 (b) (i) A thorium isotope 50Th223 undergoes an decay and changes into Radium. What is the atomic number of radium produced? (ii) If the radium undergoes a further disintegration and emits two particles, represent this reaction in the form of an equation. (iii) What is the source of the energy released during the decay? 4 (c) The refractive index of water is 4/3 and that of glass is 3/2. Calculate the refractive index of air with respect to water and that of air w.r.t. glass. State the principle you ued in your calculation. 2 2. (a) The following diagram show the resistor 2 , 4 and R connected to a battery of emf 2V and internal resistance 3 . A main current of 0.25 ampere flows through the circuit. (i) What is the p.d. across the 4 resistor? (ii) Calculate the p.d. across the internal resistance of the cell. (iii) What is the p.d. across the R or the 2 resistor? (iv) Calculate the value of R. 5 (b) How much steam at 100oC must be passed into 8.4 kg of water at 30oC to raise the temperature to 80oC. Take specific latent heat of steam to be 22,68,000 J kg-1. 5 3. (a) A force of 60 N is required to crack a nut. (i) What force must be applied to the handle of the nutcracker 10 cm long if the nut is placed 2 cm from the hinge? (ii) What is the Mechanical Advantage obtained? (iii) If the efficiency of the nutcracker is 85%, what is the Velocity Ratio? 5 (b) A body P has a mass of 20 kg and is moving with a velocity of 5 ms-1. Another body Q of mass 5 kg and is moving with a velocity of 20 ms-1. Calculate: (i) The ratio of the momentum of P and Q. (ii) The Kinetic energy of P in SI unit. (iii) State Work-Energy theorem. 5
