SCIENCE Paper 1 ( Physics ) Answer to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately. You will NOT be allowed to write during the 15 minutes. This time is to be spent in reading the question paper. The time given at the head of this paper is the time allowed for writing the answers. The question paper is divided into two sections. Section I contains four questions. All the four questions are to be answered. Section II contains six questions numbered 5 to 10. You have to answer any four of these questions. CLASS 10 Sections I (40 Marks). Attempt all the questions from this section. Question 1 a. b. c. d. (5x2=10) What do you mean by the following statements i. Question 2 a. b. c. d. e. (5x2=10) A metallic ball is hanging by a string from a fixes support. Draw a neat labeled diagram showing the force acting on the ball and the sting and explain it. Is it possible for hydrogen atom isotope to emit alpha particle? Explain. How is the sign of power of a lens related to its divergent or convergent action? Name the two safety devices connected to the live wire of house hold circuits. State the reason for connecting the devices in live wire. Why an echo is not heard when the distance between source of sound and reflecting body is 10m? Question 3 a. Explain the term critical angle with the aid of a labeled diagram. d. When is the potential difference between two points said to be 1V? e. i. The limit of Audibility .. ii.The limit of hearing . iii.The minimum intensity of audible sound is . iv.1J = . Sections 11 (40 Marks). Attempt any four questions from this section. Question 5 a. Two resistors 6 and 8 are connected in parallel. The combination is connected across a 8V of negligible resistance. Calculate i.Current through the battery. ii.Current through the resistor. iii.Draw the circuit diagram . b. (3) i.What is lateral displacement. Ii which are the factors depends on lateral displacement. c. (3) Briefly explain the production of electricity from water. (4) Question 6 a. . Explain briefly dispersion with the help of a neat labeled diagram. (3) b. Explain the roll of center of gravity in loading a ship. (3) c. A beam of electron enter i. an electric field and ii. a magnetic field ,from the direction normal to it. How does the deflection of beam by the electric and magnetic field differ? Explain with proper diagram. (4) Question 7 a. State the principle of moments. How will you verify this principle if you are supplied with a meter scale, a fulcrum and a weight box. b. (3) An electric bulb is rated at 220V, 100W. Find i. What is its resistance? ii. How much safe current can be passed through it? (3) c. With the help of diagram explain the two way staircase wiring. (4) Question 8 a. . Study the given diagram L B A O O L i. Name the lens LL . ii. What are the point O and O called? iii. Complete the diagram to form the image of the object AB. b. Draw the labeled diagram of an arrangement of two pulleys. One c. (3) fixed and other movable. In the diagram mark the direction of all forces acting on it. What is the ideal mechanical advantage of this system? (3) Show that the kinetic energy and potential energy is always conserved in the case of a freely falling body under gravity from a height h. (3) Question 9 a. b. c. Explain the significance of Lenz s law to show the conservation of energy in electromagnetic induction. (3) Why are cutting edges of scissors made longer that cutting edges of metal cutter? (3) i.Name the liquid which has the highest specific heat capacity? ii.Write the appropriate value of specific heat capacity of water in SI unit. iii. Write the expression for the heat energy Q received by the substance when m kg of substance of specific heat capacity J/kg K is heated through to C. iv. What happens to boiling point when some salt is added to it? (4) Question 10 a. b. i. Explain why the weather becomes very cold after a hail storm? ii.What happens to the heat supplied to a substance when the heat supplied causes no changes in the temperature of the substance. Comment on the given sentence Intensity is objective in nature and (3) loudness is subjective in nature . (3) c. State and explain Faraday s law of electromagnetic induction. (4)
