Question 6 Answer the following: i) State the primary objective of Pawan Hans Ltd. Ans: [as written in your notes] It is slow compared with road, rail and air transport, and is therefore unsuitable for the quick movement of passengers and perishable goods. This answer doesn't actually match the Pawan Hans question it's identical to your answer for 6(ii) below, so it looks like it got copied into the wrong slot. For the record: Pawan Hans Ltd is India's helicopter services company its objective is to provide helicopter transport to remote, hilly, offshore (oil-rig) and pilgrimage areas that other transport can't easily reach. Worth fixing in your notebook. ii) Mention one disadvantage of waterways. Ans: Waterways are slow compared with road, rail and air transport, and are therefore unsuitable for the quick movement of passengers and perishable goods. 1 Transport Questions Geography Question 7 State two advantages and one disadvantage of airways. Ans: North-Eastern India has hilly and rugged terrain, dense forests and heavy rainfall. These physical conditions make the construction and maintenance of railway lines difficult and expensive. ii) Air transport has gained popularity in India. Ans: Air transport has gained popularity because it is the fastest means of transport. It is particularly useful for covering long distances quickly and for connecting remote and inaccessible regions. iii) The NSEW Corridor is beneficial for India. Ans: The North South East West (NSEW) Corridor connects the major parts of the country. It improves the movement of people and goods, reduces travelling time, and promotes trade and economic development. Question 9 What is the Golden Quadrilateral? Mention two economic benefits of it. Ans: The Golden Quadrilateral is a major highway network connecting India's major metropolitan cities Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. Economic benefits: Ans: It facilitates the fastest movement of raw material and finished goods.
