The Shri Ram School, Moulsari Campus Pre-Board Examination 2016-17 Class X Biology Time 2 hrs M. M. 80 Answers must be written on the paper provided separately. After 24 hours in the first beaker the potato cube increased in size, in the second beaker the potato cube decreased in size and in the third beaker there was no change in the size of the potato cube. The following diagram shows the result of the same experiment: [5] i) Give the technical terms for the solutions used in beakers, 1, 2 and 3. ii) In beaker 3 the size of the potato cube remains the same. Name an accessory gland found in the male reproductive system and state the function of its secretion. b) Differentiate between the following based on the words given in brackets. [5] i. Autosomes and Sex chromosomes (Number of chromosomes in a human skin cell) ii. Alpha and Beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans (Hormone released) iii. Ovulation and Oogenesis (Definition) iv. Yellow spot and Blind spot (Distribution of rods and cones) v. What is the use of the reservoir? What happens to the movement of the air bubble if the apparatus is kept: a. In the dark b. In front of a fan. Give a reason in each case. b) Draw a neat and labelled diagram of a mitotically dividing plant cell (chromosome number-2) in the anaphase stage. Minimum 6 parts to be labelled. c) Define the following: i. Stereoscopic vision ii. The nerve that transmits impulses from the ear to the brain iii. Group of hormones produced by the adrenal cortex that help in mineral metabolism. iv. The phase of the menstrual cycle which involves maturation of follicles. v. Removal of plant sap through an injured part of a plant.
