Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: In the heart of the Western Ghats, the silent valley was no longer silent. For years, the villagers of Karem had coexisted with the forest, but the arrival of the "Great Corridor" project a six-lane highway had fractured that peace. Mukund, an elderly naturalist, stood at the edge of the clearing where the ancient Banyan tree once lived. To the engineers, it was an obstruction; to Mukund, it was a vertical city housing over fifty species of birds and insects. He watched as the yellow excavators clawed at the earth, their metallic groans echoing through the canopy. The project promised 'connectivity,' yet Mukund felt a profound sense of disconnection. His grandson, Rahul, saw it differently. To him, the highway represented an escape from the stagnant rural life to the opportunities of the city. "Grandfather, the road brings hospitals and colleges," Rahul argued. Mukund sighed, pointing to a stream that had turned into a muddy trickle due to the debris. "A road that brings you to the city is of no use if it destroys the water that keeps your village alive," he replied. As the sun dipped behind the ridges, a leopard's call pierced the air not a hunt, but a cry of confusion. The highway had cut right through its traditional migratory path. Mukund knew that soon, news of 'man-animal conflict' would dominate the headlines, and the leopard would be blamed for 'trespassing' on land that had been its home for millennia.
