[4] Question 8 The rise of Mahatma Gandhi gave new hope to the masses in India. In the light of this statement, answer the following questions: (i) Which mass struggle was launched by him on non-violent lines in 1920? Mention any two causes of this movement. (ii) (iii) [3] Explain the event that marked the beginning of the Civil Disobedience Movement. [3] What was the impact and significance of the Quit India Movement? [4] Question 9 In 1914, a war began in Europe which soon engulfed almost the entire world with the battles fought in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Pacific. This war was different from the wars fought earlier in terms of its scale and its repercussions. It was fought on a H.C.G. Paper-1/Grade X/ICSE/ Preliminary Examination/ Page 4 of 5 CAM/UA/2023-24 worldwide scale and affected almost all the countries of the world. During this war new methods of defence and destruction were used. Moreover, in the earlier wars, the civilian populations were not generally involved. But this war was fought by the people as a whole. Thus, the war marked the turning point in the history of the world. (i) Name the War referred to in the extract.
