Assume steel o f grade Fe410, a nd the threads o f t he bolts fall in the shear planes i f n ot m entioned. Assume suitable d ata i f n ot given. 1. Determine the strength for each o f the following cases i f M20 grade 4.6 ordinary bolts are used to connect 16 mm thick plates. (i) Lap joint (ii) Single cover butt joint; cover plate thickness= 12 mm (iii) Double cover butt joint; cover plate thickness = 10 mm . .. 3+3+3 2. Design a welded connection for a tension member consisting o f ISMC 250 to develop its full strength. Length o f the joint is limited to 35 em. Assume the size o f weld as 5 mm and is fabricated in the field. Provide the sketch for the detailing o f the weld connection. . .. 4 3. A plate o f200 x 10 mm and Fe 410 grade is used as a tension member which is connected to a 16 mm thick gusset plate.
