Marks : 100 Instructions to candidates: 1) Answer three questions from section I and three questions from section II. 2) Answers to the two sections should be written in separate books. 3) Neat diagrams must be drawn wherever necessary. 4) Figures to the right indicate full marks. 5) Use of logarithmic tables, slide rule, Mollier charts, electronic pocket calculator and steam tables is allowed. 6) Assume suitable data, if necessary. SECTION - I Q1) a) List input data necessary for design, selection and sizing of Control Valve and output data of the same. [8] b) A control valve is used for regulating the liquid flow from a tank. The water level is to be controlled in this tank at a height of 25 feet by regulating the outflow. The measured inflow varies from 0 to 120 gallons per minute. Calculate the Cv and suggest a suitable valve for this application. Instead of the valve discharging to the atmosphere, if it discharges into a second tank with a head of 15 feet and the maximum flow through is 120 gpm. Calculate the Cv and suggest a suitable valve for this application. [8] OR Q2) Explain the sources of noise in a control valve. Draw the setup to measure the noise in a control valve. Differentiate between the source treatment and path treatment for reducing the control valve noise. [16] P.T.O.
