Use of logarithmic tables, slide rule, Mollier charts, electronic pocket calculator and steam tables is allowed. Assume suitable data, if necessary. SECTION - I Q1) a) State various factors considered in ISA 75.02 for testing capacity of a control valve. Explain any two factors in detail. [8] b) A control valve regulates liquid flow from a tank. The water level is to be controlled in this tank at a level of 25 feet by regulating the outflow. The measured inflow varies from 0 to 120 gallons per minute. Calculate CV and suggest a suitable valve for this application. Instead of the valve discharging to atmosphere, if it discharges into a second tank with head of 15 feet. The maximum flow through is 120 gpm. Calculate CV and suggest a suitable valve for this application. [8] OR Q2) a) Describe the terms Cavitation and Flashing w.r.t. control valves. State giving reasons whether the following statement is true or otherwise. Flashing is more hazardous than Cavitation . [8] b) Comment on valves used for high temperature and high pressure applications. [8] Q3) a) For the following processes select the PID settings with justification.[10] i) A process with dead time and multiple capacity. ii) A gas pressure control process with single capacity.
